A few days ago I saw an advert for Soay sheep on UsedOttawa and my interest was piqued. So I started reading a little about them.

Soay (pronounced “so – ay”) is the name of several Scottish islands. It is Sòdhaigh (sometimes anglicised “Soaigh”) in Scottish Gaelic, and comes from the Old Norse so-ey meaning “island of sheep”. ~ Wikipedia

I have often been told by friends who raise sheep that I should get rid of the thistles in our fields. While it is true that thistles get caught up in the fleece and are a real pain to remove, we prefer to try to live alongside nature rather than ‘against’ it.
