I have been rather under par this week which has meant not many things being checked off on the task list. I have a hard time giving myself time off, as if I am sitting still then I am generally worrying about what I should be doing, and feeling guilty about it. This week has been a prime example of that – I haven’t given myself a proper day off but also haven’t really managed to achieve anything!

Bees in the winterFebruary 3rd, 2010 by SteveEver wondered what Bees do in the cold winter months? Cottage PieFebruary 2nd, 2010 by HeidiWe wanted to make a shepherd’s pie but the lamb that went into our freezer wasn’t very big so we don’t have a great deal of meat, and not really any that we would want to grind into mince. But we do still have a fair bit of the grass fed beef we bought last year, so we decided to compromise and have cottage pie. Carding Hopeful MariaFebruary 1st, 2010 by HeidiI have been very lucky that my new friend and mentor Elizabeth the Hilltop Fibreworker has very kindly has lent me a drum carder. I am really not sure how it is already the last day in January. Now don’t get me wrong, the closer we get to Spring the more excited I get thinking about the lambs and my vegetable garden. But with the speed at which this month passed I am not going to be ready! Mean RoosterJanuary 29th, 2010 by HeidiWe had a mean rooster problem; well in fact in the summer there were two mean roosters. They would wait until my back was turned and then attack me. Or one would distract me while the other snuck around to attack me from behind! We are colourful!January 28th, 2010 by HeidiThis weeks You Capture is Colour. Home improvementsJanuary 27th, 2010 by HeidiAs we mentioned before we are very concerned about being as environmentally friendly or ‘green’ as we can. One of the steps we are taking in our efforts to lessen our carbon footprint is taking advantage of the government scheme to reduce energy usage; we had our home energy audit back in February last year and discovered that our house receives a failing grade! Great chieftain o’ the puddin-race!January 26th, 2010 by HeidiSaturday night we had a party to celebrate Burns night. I wanted to invite more people than I could seat around our dining room table, so I came up with the idea of a Burns night buffet! Fibre preparation – skirting & washingJanuary 25th, 2010 by HeidiIn the last two years I have found myself with many new teachers, all of whom I am grateful for. But especially important are a couple of ladies I consider my ‘mentors’ – Tammy of Kalwa Taure Shetlands and Elizabeth the Hilltop Fibreworker. They provided me with the following instructions for how to skirt and wash fleeces.
